Lake Hartwell State Recreation Area

This scenic park is located on the banks of Lake Hartwell—one of the southeast’s largest (56,000 acres of water with over 950 miles of shoreline) and most popular public recreation lakes. The Park has 680 acres with 14 miles of shoreline and is a popular destination for fisherman, campers and nature lovers.

cabin tents at recreation areaWith 115 RV and tent campsites with water and electrical, 13 walk-in tent sites, shower and restroom facilities and a dump station, it’s a great location for vacationers. There are also a couple cabin-tents available for rent that have charming views of the lake. The campsites are spread in two separate areas of the park giving maximum views of the lakes. The boat ramps give easy access to the water for all the favorite water activities.

There is a boat ramp at the north end of the park for easy access by campers and another at the south end of the park for day visitors.

Lake Hartwell is a well-known bass fishing lake hosting many regional and local fishing tournaments and a great place for the weekend fisherman to catch his or her limit. Crappie, bream and catfish are also plentiful. And the Park store has a bait shop—very handy

The Park includes hiking trails, picnic areas, a picnic shelter, basketball court and playground equipment as well.

Located on Hwy 11 just north of I-85, Lake Hartwell State Recreation Area is easily accessible and it is the only state or county park in Oconee County that utilizes Lake Hartwell. Visit for a day or week or more and enjoy this beautiful Lake and all the amenities of the park.
